2008 PARRAMATTA BUSINESS & SUSTAINABILITY EXPO

TUESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2008
CROWNE PLAZA PARRAMATTA

Expo Edge, in conjunction with Parramatta Chamber of Commerce and Parramatta City Council, were pleased to present the eighth Parramatta Business & Sustainability Expo at the Crowne Plaza Parramatta.  This was the second time it was held at this prestigious Parramatta CBD location and it was just as successful, if not more, than 2007.  Photos and prize winners are featured further down this page - please scroll down

This year the annual Parramatta City Council's Sustainability Expo was successfully incorporated into the Business Expo giving this expo a new theme.  There were Sustainability Workshops sponsored by the NSW Department of State & Regional Development and booths specifically presenting the Sustainability theme.  Over 40 exhibitors were displaing their goods and services and over 300 visitors from the local business community enjoyed both the expo and the interesting workshops.

Directly following the Expo's closure, the networking Cocktail Party, hosted by the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce, was held in an adjacent function room at the Crowne Plaza Parramatta where free drinks and canapes were served.  Exciting prizes from the Expo's Passport Promotion were drawn and everyone had a chance to chat to the many Chamber members, expo visitors and exhibitors.

We would like to thank our major sponsors, Crowne Plaza Parramatta, Parramatta City Council and the Department of State and Regional Development NSW for their support to make the event, and the After-5 cocktail party and networking function, free for Visitors to attend.  We are also extremely grateful to our many Alliance Partners - Awards & More,  GWP Business & Lifestyle MagazineInflatable Event Company, Wave AV, Wickham Public Relations and X Designs - for their support to make this event a success.  We would also like to make a special mention to Snap Printing who have provided us with all our printing requirements.

Below are some useful hints, provided by Parramatta City Council, on how to improve your business' sustainability:

8 actions for business……

Per capita, Australia has the highest greenhouse gas emissions in the world (IPCC, 2006). Locally, Parramatta City Council in 2004 proportionally contributed to 2.24% of greenhouse gas emissions in NSW. We are all equally responsible for the total ‘footprint' associated with our lifestyles.

Here are 8 easy actions that business can undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and climate change:

  • Purchase Accredited Green Powerhttp://www.greenpower.gov.au/
  • Change a light, replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Adjust your thermostat, move your thermostat 2 degrees in winter and up to 2 degrees in summer
  • Implement energy efficiency measures in the office, this could include purchasing equipment that features the energy star and fitting timers to equipment
  • Purchase sustainable products
  • Choose sustainable transport options, for example catch a train or bus, ride a bike or walk.
  • Reuse, recycle and minimise consuming products that require a lot of packaging
  • Plant a tree

Take the first step today. Real action on climate change may be easier than you think.
