City of Ryde                                                                                                         Support Partner

The City of Ryde supports sustainable business in the Ryde area.

Our support for economic development contributes significantly to the States' “Global Economic Corridor” which is clearly identified by the NSW Metropolitan Strategy.

The corridor of concentrated jobs and activities in centres stretches from North Sydney to Macquarie Park and from the City to Airport and Port Botany and will remain the powerhouse of Australia's economy. Around 700,000 of Sydney jobs (32%) are located in the global economic corridor.

A key aim of this Strategy is to build on the strengths of the global economic corridor and to grow 150,000 new jobs in this corridor over the life of the Metropolitan Strategy.

As part of this sustainability, the City of Ryde is also committed to a Carbon Neutral outcome for the LGA and, as part of this commitment, has sponsored this expo to be a Carbon Neutral offset event. As part of this, the council Committee of the Whole on 20 February 2007 approved public exhibition of the Draft Greenhouse Gas Reduction Action Plan (GGRAP 2007). The GGRAP sets out a series of key action plans and objectives being planned by the City of Ryde to address the greenhouse effect. These include:

  • A 20% reduction in corporate greenhouse gas emissions on 2003/04 levels by 2012/13.
  • A 20%reduction per capita of community greenhouse gas emissions on 2001 levels by 2010.
