Expo Edge raised $640 for Movember 2008 - thank you for your help

But what is Movember?

Movember, the month formally known as November, is a charity event held during November each year to raise money for male health issues. Which ever way we look at it, men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy for men is five years less than for women. Scroll down to find out why.

After the success of Movember 2007, Expo Edge's primarily female staff have registered David Milne, our Managing Director, to participate again in Movember 2008. This year we raised a massive $640 with the total team David belonged to raising just over $1,000.  That placed David in the top 4,000 in Australia! Again, a fantastic result to help with the improvement of men's health.

This year he's promised to go the full tote - trucker moustache and Elvis sideburns!  Check the final photo below; we're not certain it looked any better in the end!?!

Thankyou to the following people for their help to raise these much needed funds:

  • Lawrence Murphy, Cherrybrook Computer Consulting
  • Graham Hansen & Julie Yates from Telstra
  • The team at CBA
  • Craig Ford
  • Mark Harper
  • Malcolm Hayes
  • Andrew Gardoni

Its still not too late!  To donate to David's Mo you can either:

1. Click this link https://www.movember.com/au/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink&rego=1563846&country=au and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or

2. Write a cheque payable to ‘Movember Foundation', referencing my Registration Number 1563846 and mailing it to:

Movember Foundation
PO Box 292
Prahran VIC 3181

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues and donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative. The PCFA and beyondblue will use the funds to fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and depression.

And the final result for this year ....

But why do men die earlier?

There is a lot of pub jokes regarding this question! But the real answer is because men lack awareness about the very real health issues they face, have a "she'll be right" attitude and are reluctant to see a doctor about an illness or to go for regular medical checks.

The aim of Movember is to change these attitudes, make male health fun by putting the Mo back on the face of fashion and in the process raise some serious funds for key male health issues, including Prostate Cancer and Male Depression.

To help, David is joining thousands of other men and bringing the Mo back because he's passionate about changing men's health and the fight against male depression and prostate cancer. Why...

  • Depression affects 1 in 6 men...Most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.
  • Last year in Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who die from breast cancer annually.
  • Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 5 years less than females.

How does it work?

At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about male health issues as possible.

By supporting David in this quest you will be supporting male health in Australia. The money raised by Movember is donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative, which will use the funds to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and male depression.
